Flavor of Hibiscus Flowers

Hibiscus flowers are a very unique ingredient. They are a tropical, edible flower that grows throughout the world. Hibiscus flowers can be eaten fresh, right after being picked. However they are usually used as an ingredient for jams, salads or drinks. We are going to focus on using hibiscus in tea. We think it’s the most delicious way to enjoy hibiscus!

Hibiscus flowers are sour and also sweet. They have an incredible berry flavor that is unique and irresistible. That is why so many hibiscus teas are called “very berry hibiscus”! It also doesn’t hurt that the flowers are super pretty and make a gorgeous garnish.

We like to use loose leaf hibiscus tea for our recipe

Hibiscus Iced Tea

You can find hibiscus tea in most grocery stores. We like to use loose leaf hibiscus tea for our recipe as it tends to be a little stronger. However, you can also use hibiscus tea bags which may be a little easier to find. Look for decaf herbal tea so you can enjoy this ice tea even before bedtime without having to worry about being up all night!

Pomegranate Tea with Pomegranate Juice

Pomegranate juice is the perfect flavor to complement hibiscus juice. Pomegranates are often described as tasting like tart cherries. They are also sweet like grapes. Pomegranate leaves are also edible and sometimes used to make pomegranate tea.

Pomegranates are also loaded with health benefits. The juice is full of antioxidants and vitamin C. That means this homemade iced tea is healthy and delicious! Sounds like a non alcoholic drink that you need to try!

  4. Add the pomegranate juice and lemon juice to the tea and stir.
  5. Cool the iced tea in the fridge until completely chilled.
  6. Pour over ice and garnish with lemon slices, hibiscus flowers or pomegranate arils.

Your local florist may have fresh hibiscus flowers you can use as drink garnishes. You can also order them online or, if you’re lucky enough, pick some in your tropical backyard!

Look for pomegranate cups in the grocery store so you can skip peeling a whole pomegranate. Add some fresh blackberries or raspberries for a very berry hibiscus tea. Pretty garnishes really make this iced tea recipe even better!

Make a big pitcher of our hibiscus pomegranate iced tea for your next party. Everyone is sure to love the sweet, tart taste and find each glass quite refreshing. Enjoy!
